WHAT I'VE WATCHED

Community Season 1 (DVD)

I think this is one of the best shows on television right now. This show pays homage to all sorts of styles of shows, genres, and movies. While being funny, clever, and true to the predecessor without ever mocking it. It's so clear how this show has developed a cult following. Though the creator of the show was just recently fired and Chevy Chase has been having a lot of conflict with the producers. It's unfortunate because I feel the show will probably take a turn for the worst with the newest season. At a point where this should be where the shows peaks. Overall I would recommend the purchase of Community Season 1. OVERALL RATING 4 out of 5
Funny People (Blu Ray)

Directed and produced by Judd Apatow. This is the story of Adam Sandler basically playing himself but if he was complete and utter asshole and terminally ill. While Seth Rogen is his assistant and aspiring stand up comedian and the film takes place from there. This got mixed reviews I personally enjoyed it. It's a good story, Adam and Seth I thought had a funny and believable onscreen chemistry, and it does look great on blu ray. Mainly because it was shoot by the same person that shoot shawshank redemption. Though this film is no where near perfect. It seemed it Judd didn't know if he wanted to make comedy with some drama or vice versa. It just never finds that happy medium. Also I feel we some aspects and characters should have more developed Adam's family situation and Seth's roommates. So I'd recommend that's worth a rent or a purchase if you find it for cheap. OVERALL RATING: 3 out 5
Drive (Blu Ray)

Wow this movie was great to say the very least. If you have made the mistake of putting this movie like I have don't. This is a must own and watch for any blu ray collector. First off Ryan Gosling gives one of his best performances to date. His character Driver is so distant and has very few lines but at the same time just enough. His physical acting is just outstanding the only recent thing I can compare it to is Michael Fassbender's role in Hunger. Carey Mulligan is also amazing as the love interest and damsel in distress. Lastly Bryan Cranston and Albert Brooks both give equally outstanding acting performances. But Nicolas Refn gives us such a great pulp thriller all the way around. The styling shot of L.A. are so gritty and real not to the glamourous overdone shots we ussually see. Then the score acts as almost as a character in the movie. I was born in the early 90's so I didn't even regonize any of the songs, but they fit the movie so supberbly it's uncanny. If you are a fan of Tarantino's films or any pulp style thrillers then this will not dissapoint. Though in no way should this be directly related to a Tarantino film, the writting and directing ar far from the same. This movie by far was one of my favorites of 2011 and is an essential watch. OVERALL RATING: 4.5 out of 5
